The first example I saw was earlier in the summer over at Between Naps on the Porch. Susan talked about a color commonly found on porches in the South called "haint blue." People would use this color on their porch ceilings to keep haints, or ghosts, from coming in (according to superstition, they can't cross water - the blue confused them and kept them out).
Since then, I've seen it in several other places and the look is definitely growing on me! I'm really tempted to try it in my home, but I have a feeling that Mr. Porter would frown upon that - he's definitely a traditionalist and set in his ways about what is "right" in home decor. I'll try to change his mind, but until then I'll have to be content with looking at pictures of other painted ceilings.
How gorgeous is that last one? If I had a porch, I would definitely jump on this bandwagon. Maybe someday!

That porch is pretty! Would love to have a homey outdoor area (plus a complete outdoor kitchen while we are wishing for things).
ReplyDeleteI never thought about painting the ceiling, but I love it! It actually makes the room look complete. What kind of colors would you use if you could convinced Mr.Porter?
